The ‘Hand-In-Hand’ project will boost the interest in physical sciences

The ‘Amgen Teach Hand-In-Hand for Science’ carried under the coordination of European Schoolnet by Amgen Association and TED University completed its 3rd year. The project participated by science teachers from state and private schools around Turkey aims at boosting the interest in physical sciences by training educators.

The ‘Amgen Teach Hand-In-Hand for Science’ project which aims to develop the reflective skills and academic success of the students and create a positive attitude towards science by encouraging students to choose a career in physical sciences, have completed its 3rd year and hosted 100 science teachers. Although Ankara is the pilot city of the project, teachers from all around Turkey have applied to participate the project. Teachers selected from different cities, following the evaluation of the applications, discovered different teaching methods for encouraging the students to make research and learn how to acquire knowledge.

The 3 day training program carried at the premises of TED University targets to develop the professional formation of the teachers and thus boost the interest of students in physical sciences. The training activities target to elaborate the teaching perspective of the teachers and lead the students to learn by researching and questioning.

The project received application mostly from state schools

The Coordinator of the Project, TEDU Faculty of Education, Basic Sciences Unit Director Prof Dr Murat Günel, mentioned that biology, chemistry and science teachers from different provinces like Siirt, Van, Tekirdağ and Antalya have applied to participate the project  and that the largest demand comes from state schools. Günel indicated that %70 of the applications come from state schools and added, ‘The Project is being implemented in 10 European countries including Turkey, Ireland, France and the Czech Republic. The European Schoolnet aims to change the teaching perspectives of the teachers and report the transformation of the students in the long run’.

The Project has reached over 400 teachers and thousands of students across Turkey
