Education and Social Institutions in Perspective!

In "EDUC 110: Educational Sociology" course offered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Sibel Akin, a hot topic discussion was held around how religion, economy, and politics impact education. To this end, with the help of 6 thinking hats instructional technique, teacher candidates were encouraged to analyze and reflect on the relationship between those social institutions and the educational policies in Turkey and in the world. Representing six very different ways of thinking, different coloured symbolic thinking hats helped teacher candidates to look at this landscape of relationships from different perspectives, which thereby, allowed them to organize their thoughts better and develop problem solving skills as well as have improved creative, critical, and reflective thinking skills.
