General Competences for Teaching Profession: In-service Trainings!

As the faculty members of the TEDU Faculty of Education, Dr. Sibel Akin and Res. Assist. Sinem Sozen-Ozdogan were invited by several public schools located in Ankara to offer in-service training seminars on “teacher competencies for the 21st century”. The seminar was also offered at TEDU Faculty of Education as part of Baskent Teacher Seminars – I. While the seminars aimed to actively engage the participating teachers in the discussion of generic teacher competencies expected from all teachers (K-12) in Turkey regardless of their subject areas, the seminar also offered a comparison of the key teacher competencies suggested for teachers in Hong Kong and Singapore, which have been among the top ranking countries on international examinations such as TIMSS and PISA, and thereupon might offer essential insights on developing effective teacher education policies in Turkey based on the key competencies that are expected from teachers globally in the 21st century.
